How this calculator works

Etsy’s fees stack up in layers, and most sellers underestimate them. This calculator adds up every layer, then subtracts your real costs, so the profit number you see is the money that actually stays with you.

The formula, in plain English:
1. Fee stack = $0.20 listing + 6.5% transaction + (3% + $0.25) payment processing + ~0.35% regulatory fee
2. Your costs = item cost + shipping you pay + ad spend per sale
3. True profit = sale price − fee stack − your costs
4. Margin = true profit ÷ sale price × 100

Worked example

Jordan sells a handmade candle for $35. Materials cost $8, shipping costs $4.50, and Etsy ads average $2 per sale.
  1. Listing fee: $0.20
  2. Transaction fee: 6.5% × $35 = $2.28
  3. Payment processing: 3% × $35 + $0.25 = $1.30
  4. Regulatory fee: ~0.35% × $35 = $0.12
  5. Total fees: $3.90  ·  Costs: $8 + $4.50 + $2 = $14.50
  6. True profit: $35 − $3.90 − $14.50 = $16.60 → margin 47.4%
Try it: the defaults above already use Jordan’s numbers — the calculator should show $16.60 profit and a 47.4% margin.

Frequently asked questions

What are Etsy’s fees in 2026?

The standard stack is a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing of 3% + $0.25, and a regulatory operating fee (around 0.35% in the US, varying by state). This calculator uses those figures.

Does this include Etsy Offsite Ads?

Not automatically — Offsite Ads fees (12–15%) only apply when Etsy drives the sale. If you run them, add your average ad cost per sale into the “Ad spend per sale” field.

What if I charge the buyer for shipping?

Enter only the shipping cost you pay out of pocket. If the buyer covers shipping in full, enter 0 — but note Etsy charges the transaction fee on the shipping amount you charge.

How can I improve my margin?

Raise prices strategically, cut per-unit costs, reduce ad spend per sale, or bundle items so the flat fees ($0.20 + $0.25) spread across more revenue.

Is the regulatory fee the same in every state?

No — it varies by marketplace and US state. We use ~0.35% as a planning figure; your Payment account page shows the exact rate Etsy applies to you.

⚠️ Estimates only — not tax or financial advice. Fee rates can change and vary by state. Always confirm current fees in your Etsy Payment account.
